Traveling Tuesdays: A Trip to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I dropped a strong hint to the hubby several years ago that it was time to revisit Canada. To me, it was a perfectly clear suggestion in the form of a card that said, “Let’s go bowling in Canada.” The inside of the card said, “That way, when we’re old we can look at each other and say: Remember when we went bowling in Canada?”

He gave me a perplexed look and asked if I was trying to tell him I wanted him to go bowling with me. Hmm – hints aren’t always as clear as they should be. He did not latch onto the suggestion of traveling to Canada, but instead told me it was a cute card before going off to get the oil changed in the car.

That evening a friend called and asked if we’d like to come see a commercial business fair in Canada’s Festival City, the beautiful capital of the province of Alberta. Now that suggestion he understood perfectly! Reservations were quickly made to fly to Seattle where we would rent a car and drive to Edmonton for a minication mixed with business.

The Oilers, sad to say, were playing out of town, so hockey was off our list. We drove over to look at the commercial exhibits, particularly the tractors and various ATVs and snowmobiles. An exhibit featured the waste water recovery plans for the city. We had a blast watching two fishermen from a TV show displaying how to properly use rods, reels, and lures. They actually did live casting and pulled in some great fish in the manmade pond built for the demonstration.

A drive around town yielded ideal photo-ops of schools and churches. What’s the benefit of having a hubby who loves to shop? I am always welcome to suggest going to the mall. West Edmonton Mall was the highlight of the trip! The displays, ice skating rink, several levels of shops, hotel, casino, and indoor beach were awesome!

We didn’t go bowling in Canada, but we tripped the Light Fantastic and built a lot of great memories!
