Traveling Tuesdays: Skyhigh

Years ago The Fifth Dimension asked "Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?" Reno, Nevada just completed another fantastic air balloon exhibition and proved the answer is still yes.

We can fly!

Brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Etienne Montgolfier invented the hot air balloon. First an unmanned craft was released into the air. A duck and a rooster took the next flight. On October 15, 1783, man took to the skies for an overhead look at the earth below. Talk about excitement!

Look for hot air balloon races in countries such as Russia, the UK, Germany, and France.

Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu (SJR) in the province of Quebec hosts a family-oriented hot air balloon experience annually.

Include a balloon race in your travel plans when you visit states like New Mexico, Utah, and Texas. Sometime the most incredible locations are less than an hour's drive from your vacation destination.

Maybe you'll spot a hot-air balloon as you're driving along a country lane.

Pre-dawn activities create a beautiful vision.

Happy traveling, wherever you're headed.

  2. Hot air balloons are so amazing. It's hard to believe that they float in the air just using heated air.

  9. Wow. I have always loved hot air balloons. I was going to send my husband on one for his birthday but went with a boat ride in stead. I think it would be so cool to take one! - Jeanine
