People frequently ask why I became a teacher when there were so many other opportunities available. My answer has always been that I participated in other opportunities to make myself a better teacher. Helping others learn to read was my main inspiration then and now.
Reading is a joy. I read to my kids from the time they were
born. Happy stories, silly limericks, and newspaper articles – I wanted to be
sure they knew that all kinds of things could be learned if they knew how to
read.
Reading out loud is important because it helps parents and
teachers know if words are being pronounced correctly. In a language where words
like through and rough might share the same page, knowing the difference in
sounds is vital to improving the knowledge of reading.
Books with pictures enhance written words. eReaders
encourage reading. Play the alphabet game when driving somewhere with the kids.
We always permitted saving letters like Q and Z because they are hard to find.
Thanks to everyone in my life for developing my love of
reading and learning!
I know with my Grandkids. The ones that the mother reads to them.... they seem to know more about things. The one that is not read to... well, she is cute!!
ReplyDeleteCute is good, too. Maybe you can get her a talking book for her birthday. Thanks for dropping by!
DeleteI love to read, and I've made sure that my kids love to read, too. They read everything from graphic novels to traditional books.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Stacie! It's a good feeling to have the kids pick up a book and scour the written word.
DeleteTaking some time to read is like a daily vacation. I love being able to take some time out of the day to sit outside with a book.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent way to get fresh air, sunshine, and a few minutes of peace and quiet.
DeleteDon't be mad at me, but I actually hate reading. I haven't picked up a book in years. To me, it;s the most boring thing in the world.
ReplyDeleteBut I know you read the ingredients of products, so you are putting the skill to good use. I read a couple of books prior to release of their movies, and decided I would not do that again. I expected one thing and seldom got it.
DeleteMy daughter has inherited my love for reading. However my son has not. I wish he would read more.
ReplyDeleteI love reading. I haven't read in a long time, I wish I had more time to! I miss it. It was so relaxing!
ReplyDeleteI grew up loving to read and found myself lost in a good book so often as a child. I have definitely not lost that love but wish I had more time to indulge these days.
ReplyDeletethat is the best thing you can do is read and open yourself to knowledge
ReplyDeleteI have a love of reading and love that my kids do too. Reading creates so much imagination and learning. Working on my Summer reading list now!

ReplyDeleteI love that saying that one who reads gets to experience thousands of lives. Reading is such a magical thing, that lets us escape from our every day lives. It brings me much joy too!
ReplyDeleteReading is good for the soul. I love devouring a good book. I don't think that many people make time for reading anymore.
ReplyDeleteWhen kiddo was younger I used to read to her every night. Now that she is 10, I dont do it as much, but from time to time it is requested. My mother was big on reading. She went to school for Literature and Creative Writing until I came along. Ooops. LOL. I was reading Stephen King and Tolkien while the rest of my friends were still playing with baby dolls. I guess that is where my own love of reading and creative writing came from.
ReplyDeleteReading has always been one of my escapes. I'm rarely without a book. Luckily, I'm married to someone that shares that passion.
ReplyDeleteReading definitely IS wonderful! I committed to reading 36 books this year, and so far I'm ahead of target!
ReplyDeleteI love that reading was your inspiration for teaching! There can't be enough reading in the home and at school Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe are all big readers in my family. I love to go to the bookstore for hours looking at all the great books to choose from.
