The spring equinox, also known as the vernal equinox, officially starts March 20, 2016. I guess because of the way the earth tips and turns, Canada gets in shortly before midnight on March 19th. The weather is so crazy this year that we have to believe the common sense we're born with. Spring is here when plants can bloom and leaf out without having everything freeze off or blow away in the fierce wind.
Just look at the growth from the yarrow. I choose not to yank out the natural cover from last fall, because it provides warmth and safety to the new leaves. I really enjoy the tall stalks that hold the tight clusters dainty yellow flowers!
This is a wonderful Leap Year Day gift from Mother Nature. I've been swindled out of spring flowers like this beautiful daffodil more times than I care to remember. This morning I walked outside and saw this brilliant yellow bloom. The Iris may not bloom this year, as it's still dropping to the low 20s overnight.
It doesn't matter. I am thrilled with just one flower of any type! Yes, I enjoy dandelions and cherry blossoms and roses. It's sort of like a reaffirmation that survival is something the whole earth works toward.
Have you noticed any signs of spring in the last week or so? It's a wonderful time to celebrate life!
Here, too and I am VERY happy about it. We had a crappy winter here in Boston last year, so we totally deserve it.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like spring has started coming early everywhere We're seeing the signs of spring already in my area too. I'm digging it.
ReplyDeleteWe have had daffodils start popping up in our area. They are everywhere now.
ReplyDeleteIt has been gorgeous here in the Las Vegas area lately with temperatures in the eighties and flowers blooming everywhere. Of course, this means our allergies are starting to act up, but it is so worth the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteWe also have lilies and daffodils "springing" up all over.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely excited for it to warm up. It will be nice to see some blooming happening!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for Spring! The weather here is snowy and cold right now but yesterday was warm and sunny.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that spring is so close, although we have had a mild winter and should not complain... I still like to see the green grass peeking up from the snow and the buds on the trees.
ReplyDeleteThe weather was beautiful here today and I was able to hobble outside (I recently had foot surgery) and spend some time on the porch swing as my dogs played in the yard. I noticed that some of my flowers have started to pop up thru the ground....but they are predicting snow in the next few days so I don't know if they will survive or not.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved dandelions too. Their sunny color always brightens my mood.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you saw your fist sign of Spring! May you enjoy many other beautiful flowers!
